What's all this then?
This is the Brabus Ultimate E, a tweaked and tuned all-electric Smart ForTwo ED, which the famed German tuning company might put into production if enough customers are interested in buying it.
An electric Brabus? Quick, is it?
Bloody hell, yes. How does a 0-62mph time of 4.5 seconds grab you? Brabus has built it to demonstrate that even battery-powered cars must be engaging to drive. "Electric city sports cars must primarily be fun," said Brabus CEO Bodo Buschmann at the car's unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show. "This includes breathtaking and virtually silent acceleration paired with a sufficient range."
What else has been done to it?
It features tweaked, lowered suspension, ultra-light 18-inch alloy wheels, that lurid yellow paintjob and a bespoke blue leather interior. Power for the 204hp electric motor comes from a specially designed 22kWh battery, made for Brabus by Austrian experts Kreisel. Brabus claims that the battery can be recharged to 80 per cent capacity in just half an hour from a home charger, a figure that normally needs a three-phase fast charger.
