God love Brabus. One of the more demented of the German tuning houses, this company specialises in Mercedes products and, for the Frankfurt IAA, it has unleashed hell on the world in the form of the mental G V12 900. This is a Mercedes G-Class with added ferocity, even more so than the 585hp/850Nm AMG G 63. You see, Brabus takes the 6.0-litre biturbo V12 with 530hp from an S 600 L and then fits a billet crank, bores out the cylinders, adds forged pistons and precision-balanced con-rods, junks Merc's turbos in favour of a couple of larger, higher-boost blowers of its own, and sets the engine's displacement at 6.3 litres. A reworked intake and exhaust system (still with side exits) complete the work and this powertrain can, all told, deliver 900hp and 1,500Nm. That's frankly insane, although in the G V12 900 it has to be pegged to a 'mere' 1,200Nm for the sake of the other components, like the four-wheel-drive system and nine-speed automatic gearbox which handle power delivery. Despite weighing 2.6 tonnes and having all the aerodynamic grace of a breeze block, the G V12 900 will hit 62mph from rest in 3.8 seconds and will run on to 174mph, limited, where legal (and where the driver's cojones are sizeable enough, presumably). A wider track, alloy wheels of 23 or 24 inches in diameter, Brabus Dynamic Ride Control and the 'Widestar' bodykit on the outside with a lurid, bespoke leather interior complete one of our favourite show cars of this year's Frankfurt extravaganza. And this isn't even Brabus' first G-Wagen rodeo, as it unveiled a V12 G back in at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show, while last year it started punting out the 700 Widestar. Anyway, prepare for a final excruciating set of stats: at best, the G V12 900 is capable of 14.9mpg combined with 433g/km of CO2 emissions; just ten are going to be made, hence its full name of 'Brabus G V12 900 One Of Ten'; and each one will cost, for export and excluding German VAT, a stonking 605,055... which is about 540 grand, sterling. We still want one. Immensely.
