What's all this about?

The Geneva International Motor Show is just around the corner (well, it's in early March, but you get the picture), so that means we're already into 'Teaser Season'. Expect lots of glimpses of forthcoming, all-new cars from various makers in the run up to the Swiss extravaganza, with the first brand to kick us off being Mitsubishi.

And what is Mitsubishi telling us about it?

A fresh, coupe-like SUV that will expand the company's current model offerings beyond the geriatric ASX crossover and the larger Outlander/Outlander PHEV machines. In fact, it's not clear yet whether this newbie will sit alongside the ASX or replace that model outright.

Why the lack of clarity?

Because, as we said above, this is a 'coupe-like' SUV, supposed to be sporty and active, rather than practical and humdrum. If you're looking for a similar two-car offensive from one manufacturer, have a look at Toyota's range, where it offers both the RAV4 and the striking C-HR alongside one another. This teased car could therefore be Mitsu's C-HR, or it could just be the ASX MkII. All will become clear in a couple of months.

Do we know anything about it at all?

Not really, although we can extrapolate that it's a development of the Concept XR-PHEV II that the company showed at the same event in 2015. Mitsubishi says the SUV has a 'wedge-shape belt line, a forceful character line running through the side, a more steeply raked rear window, and long wheelbase with short rear overhang proportions'. And as the 2015 concept had PHEV in its name, expect this vehicle to use some form of the Outlander PHEV's drivetrain if it eventually makes it to market.

When is Geneva this year?

From March 7-19. You have been warned about the flurry of teasers heading your way in the meantime...
