What's all this about?

A quick one for you today, as Renault has released a teaser image of its Shanghai-bound R.S. 2027 Vision concept. This is the Régie's idea of what Formula 1 cars will look like in a decade's time, and follows on from the glorious TreZor, which wowed crowds in Paris last September.

I can't see much...

That's the point, as the official unveil is set to take place on April 19th. Generously-beaked former F1 champion Alain Prost and Renault Sport Racing's head man Cyril Abiteboul will be in attendance, and the car is set to hint at the potential future look of Renault's road car range.

Hang on; didn't Renault just join Formula 1?

You could be forgiven for thinking that if you were living under a rock for the last 40 years, as the French manufacturer has enjoyed a hugely successful history in the sport. From pioneering the use of turbocharging in Formula 1 cars, to supplying engines to victorious teams like Williams in the 1990s and its world championship successes as a full factory team in the 2000s, the (usually) yellow and black cars are synonymous with top-level racing.

What about Renault Sport road cars?

As they say, racing improves the breed, so you can expect racing technology to filter down to showroom models. Renault has already teased the reveal of a potential new Megane RS that's set to occur later this year, and the company's commitment to motorsport for the foreseeable future can only be good news for performance car fans.
