What's this all about?
Visitors to Renault's stand at the Paris Motor Show were greeted with an outlandish all-electric concept named Trevor. Sorry, Trezor. It's the newest instalment in what Renault terms its 'Life Flower' design direction (nope, us neither) and features lots and lots of mad stuff.
How do I get inside it?
You don't have to deal with anything as archaic as a door on the Trezor, as the roof instead provides access via a complicated-looking clamshell mechanism. This will likely stay as a concept feature until the end of time, but the styling hints heavily at what road-going Renaults will look like in the near future. There's lots of wood and red leather inside, with major emphasis on the connectivity features and autonomous capability that will trickle down to the Regie's production cars by the start of the next decade.
Is it quick?
Speed is a moot point considering that it's only a design study, but the Trezor features the 260kW electric motor from Renault's Formula E racer, giving a potential 0-100km/h time of under four seconds. The bulky electric powertrain means a kerbweight of 1,600kg, but advanced composite materials are used in all areas in an effort to keep that weight as low down in the car as possible.
It's alive!
Well, sort of. The Trezor signals a warning to other road users when the autonomous driving mode is selected, although how well the system copes with someone tailgating it isn't known just yet... The bodywork is clever, with adaptive slats to aid battery cooling and some neat visual touches. While it's purely a concept for now, it will be interesting to see just how much of the Trezor's philosophy filters down to the dealership floor.
