What's all this about?
Mazda has released an intriguing image of its latest concept car, due to be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show on 28th October. It hasn't been named yet but the sports car concept has classic, flowing lines and a long bonnet; at least as far as we can tell from the teaser image. It is designed to 'condense the company's sports car history to as great a degree as possible'. The theme of Mazda's stand is 'Accelerate toward our dreams', emphasising the brand's approach to the joy of driving.
What's under that bonnet?
At the moment the powerplant is a mystery but there may be a clue in the fact that Mazda has included a 1967 Cosmo Sport 110S in its show line-up. The Cosmo was Mazda's first rotary-powered mass-production car, suggesting that the concept will use the same type of engine. Hopefully that means Mazda is planning a rotary-powered big brother for the MX-5, possibly reviving the 'RX' series.
What else is at the show?
Joining the Cosmo in a special motorsport exhibition are two racing-specification MX-5s. Demonstrating the company's more practical side the Koeru SUV crossover concept, first seen in Frankfurt, will be among the models on show. Mazda will also demonstrate its SkyActiv technology and the company's latest safety developments will be on show at Smart Mobility City, a regular feature of the Tokyo show.
