What's all this about?
Hyundai is going to create a new performance brand for its road cars, taking the learnings it has gleaned from the World Rally Championship (WRC) and applying them to its product range.
Excellent, so what's the first car from this stable?
Er... no idea, yet. But take a gander at the N 2025 Vision Gran Turismo concept teased in these images, due for a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month: this is said to be the ultimate expression of what Hyundai N could become. And there's more.
More?
Yes, the RM15 concept car will share the stand with the N 2025 VGT. The RM15 is a mid-engined, 300hp 2.0-litre motor and, brilliantly, Hyundai says this 'suggests how the Hyundai N driver-focused technologies could come into production' and that it will 'undergo further developments to apply high-performance technology to Hyundai Motor cars in many exciting ways'. A mid-engined Hyundai N road car? We'd be well up for that, we can tell you.
Hmm, I suspect it won't be mid-engined. Anything else from Hyundai for Frankfurt?
There'll be a prototype of the WRC contender for 2016, in the form of the 'New Generation' i20, while Hyundai promises that N is designed to 'drive future performance-oriented and race-track-capable models forward and bring the most thrilling winding road fun to customers who truly love cars'. That sounds a pretty good ethos on which to build a brand, in our opinion.
