What's all this about?

It's something we knew would be coming but that doesn't make it any less brilliant news nonetheless - this is the Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupé seen in its final testing phase.

Ooh, that didn't take long to arrive, did it?

Indeed not. With the previous, 6.2-litre normally aspirated C 63, we waited four long years (from 2007 to 2011) for the saloon to morph into the two-door, but this time around Affalterbach has decided to get the Coupé out as soon as possible. We're delighted.

Where is it testing, then, at the Nürburgring?

You'd think, but actually these shots were taken at the Hockenheimring.

Very cool. What are the Coupé's stats?

No details forthcoming from Mercedes-AMG at this stage but take it as read that the two-door will have the same biturbo 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine driving the rear wheels through a seven-ratio AMG Speedshift transmission. We're also sure there will be 476hp regular and 510hp full-fat S versions, just as with the C 63 saloon and Estate. It's likely to be a more focused car, though, than even the unhinged pair already on sale, so a Black Series Coupé is, even at this early stage, not out of the question.

Any titbits you can give me to go on at the moment?

Well, looking at the car in the pictures, the disguise is lifted enough above the windscreen to show off a dark roof. Whether this is just a full-length panoramic or (here's hoping) a carbon fibre affair - as seen on its key main rival, the BMW M4 - remains to be seen. It has the usual big alloys and quad exhausts of any AMG product and the rear styling shows a lower-mounted number plate, perhaps the best hint yet that the C 63 will be taking its design cues from the S-Class Coupé and GLE Coupé models recently launched by Stuttgart.

When are we expecting to see this without the camouflage?

There's probably going to be an announcement and reveal at September's Frankfurt show, ahead of a predicted on-sale date sometime in early 2016.
