What's all this about?
FCA unveiled the Jeep Renegade Hard Steel concept at the Geneva Motor Show, based on the Jeep Renegade Trailhawk. It is the result of collaboration between Jeep, Mopar (the parts and accessories division of Chrysler) and the FCA Style Centre. It looks like a Renegade with a fancy trailer but it is designed to explore a possible range of accessories for the newest member of the Jeep range.
What's in the trailer?
As well as providing extra stowage space, the trailer is a showcase for the Uconnect LIVE system; providing internet connectivity and acting as an entertainment centre with a set of speakers on-board. Online services are accessed by a touch screen interface with music streaming, internet radio, social networking, news and traffic information available. From June, Uconnect will be available on the production Renegade, with a 5- or 6.5-inch touch screen.
What about the rest of it?
For the concept, Jeep chose a colour scheme inspired by cutting edge aviation and marine technology - brushed steel paint with matt black for details such as the roof bars, grille and 16-inch alloy wheels. Other changes include jacked-up suspension, BF Goodrich All Terrain tyres, a front skid plate engraved with the 'Trailhawk' name and a tow bar to pull the distinctive trailer.
Carrying the exterior colour to the interior, the air vent frames, glove compartment and speakers are also finished with brushed steel paint. The door panels are finished in light grey as is the stitching on the seats, with the Trailhawk logo embroidered on the headrests. Poltrona Frau Century lead-coloured leather was chosen to cover the seats; this is designed to be soft and warm to the touch with a worn and textured finish.
