What the f***?
Quite. Any Lamborghini elicits a response, but a ruby red Aventador with a prominent aero package, four exhausts and massive black alloys is likely to cause a lot of profanity. For the record, this is the new Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce and it made its world debut at tonight's Volkswagen Group Night, previewing the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.
Let me guess...
Yes, yes, it's obvious that it has 750hp, four-wheel drive and is 'superfast'. Over 217mph to be precise(ish) and 0-62mph is dispatched in 2.8 seconds - on the way to 124mph in just 8.6 seconds. We call that living up to expectations.
So it's a stickers and power boost job?
Not really, no. The mighty 6.5-litre V12 engine has been upgraded to produce more power and torque (now 690Nm at 5,500rpm), but the SV also weighs 50kg less than a standard Aventador. That's thanks to a lot of carbon fibre in the body and interior. The infotainment isn't even standard, though buyers won't pay extra if they want it. Along with that there's more exposed chassis inside and something Lamborghini calls Carbon Skin trimming parts of the interior. Other new items include carbon door panels, lightweight sports seats and an all-new instrumentation pack.
What about all those spoilers?
They're not just for show. Apparently the LP 750-4 is 150 per cent more efficient in aerodynamic terms than the regular Aventador, yet it produces 170 per cent more downforce. Presumably that's with the adjustable rear wing in its most extreme setting.
Ah, so it's a track special then, like the P1 GTR?
Actually, no. Along with the increased performance and extreme looking aerodynamics updates, Lamborghini appears to have made the Aventador easier to live with on a daily basis. That's thanks to sophisticated adaptive damping using magnetorheological fluid in the dampers and a variable ratio power steering system.
Handy, do I have to live with the red paint?
Not if your pockets are deep enough. It's called Rosso Bia, but there are five standard colours offered and of course the sky's the limit if you want to use Lamborghini's Ad Personam service. On top of the expected £300,000 asking price.
