What's this about?
Hyundai has confirmed prices and specifications for the new i20 range; designed and built in Europe, the i20 will be available from £10,695. Five trim levels are offered and the first cars will arrive in showrooms in January 2015.
What do you get?
The entry level model is the i20 S, which comes with electric front windows, remote central locking and RDS radio with USB. There is also the 'S Air', which adds manual air conditioning, and the 'S Blue' with diesel power, stop start and low rolling resistance tyres to improve fuel economy.
Volume seller in the range is expected to be the i20 SE, starting at £12,725. This can be identified by its 16-inch alloy wheels, rear parking sensors and front fog lamps. It also comes with voice activated Bluetooth, cruise control and Lane Departure Warning.
For a higher level of equipment there is the i20 Premium, priced from £13,725. Standard niceties include a Smartphone Docking Station, climate control and automatic headlamps and wipers. On the outside LEDs are used for the daytime running lights and tail lamps; it also comes with projection headlamps and privacy glass. The £14,725 Premium SE sits at the top of the range and comes with an opening panoramic glass sunroof - said to be the first time this feature has been offered in the segment. It also adds front parking sensors, heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
What about engines?
Entry-level i20s come with 75hp engines; the 1.1-litre diesel powered S Blue has the lowest CO2 emissions of the range at 84g/km. Hyundai also offers the same engine on the SE version, along with a 1.4-litre, 90hp diesel and petrol engines with 84- or 100hp. With the exception of the small diesel the line-up is the same for the two Premium models. If you want an automatic transmission it is only available with the more powerful petrol engine and carries a £900 price premium, as well as increasing CO2 emissions from 127- to 155g/km.
