What's this then?
This is the Adam S, a 150hp turbocharged version of Vauxhall's baby.
Eh, haven't we seen this already?
Sort of, the concept was shown at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year but the production model has just been confirmed for next month's Paris show.
Looks the same to me.
That is true; little has changed between Geneva and Paris other than the dropping of the 'concept' tag. Beefy body kit, large alloy wheels (17-inch as standard with an 18-inch design optional) and that 150hp engine all remain.
Alright, what's with the red roof then?
That would be Red 'n' Roll roof design, a look unique to the Adam S, though other colour combinations are available with a palate of 10 body hues and four for the roof. You can also pick up the Red ;n' Roll detail inside with red and black leather for the steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake; a combination that should look good with the optional Recaro Performance seats in either Morrocana or nappa leather.
Sounds nice. Is this the VXR version then?
We are not quite sure yet. VXR did supply the braking system and it was likely the performance division that carried out the chassis changes to give the Adam S "direct, sharp performance steering", but it seems strange not to use the VXR badge. Vauxhall describes the S as the range topper, though it may only be holding that spot until the full-fat VXR arrives.
So is it quick?
Luke warm really. Officially it does 0-62mph in 8.5 seconds and has a top speed of 124mph. It is unlikely to scare you out of your Fiesta ST, but it would probably give a non Essesse 500 Abarth a run for its money.
Ok when can I have one?
Order books are due to open in January with prices and specifications likely to be announced after the reveal in Paris.
