Getting under the bonnet of Bentley
A car brand with an undeniably strong reputation, Bentley has proven itself to be a market favourite year after year. Traditionally characterised by luxury and indulgence, recent developments have seen the manufacturer propel itself into a greener space - planning to switch to electric hybrids within the next two years.
Here we get under the bonnet of Bentley and see what this means for drivers.
Lower emissions
According to reports, changes in Bentley's offerings could see its cars come with emissions as low as a Ford Fiesta, as nine out of ten of the cars manufactured by the brand in the future will be available as a hybrid option.
In total, this could lower the brand's overall emissions by a staggering 70 per cent.
More miles
As well as the improvement in emissions, Bentley's decision to go green also means more miles to the gallon for drivers.
After a full charge, the brand's plug-in hybrids are expected to be capable of travelling a maximum of 30 miles - giving those with vehicles capable of only 17 miles to the gallon plenty more bang for their buck.
The brand's new Flying Spur V8, for example, would be capable of covering as much as 500 miles on a single tank of fuel.
Extra power
As well as enhancing their eco credentials, Bentley's new green line-up will also offer a 25 per cent increase in power. For drivers, this means more grunt on the road, but cleaner fumes coming out of the exhaust.
As well as the flagship Bentley Hybrid Concept shown at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition, other members of the Bentley family will also show improvements in power, efficiency and economy. The new and enhanced Continental GT Speed will see a considerable boost in power with a whopping 635hp and 820Nm of torque.
Better looks
Finally, Bentley is refusing to compromise on its luxurious manufacturing standards when embracing the green revolution - bringing its characteristic styling into the heart of the new green cars.
As reported on the news section of the HR Owen Bentley website, the flagship model of its green revolution (Bentley Hybrid Concept) will feature copper detailing throughout the vehicle.
Everything from copper accents in the interior cabin to copper detailing on the headlights, brake callipers, badges and internal instruments will be included as standard - giving the vehicle a distinctively elegant feel.
