What's the news?
Skoda has revealed two new model variants of the Superb saloon. It has announced this week the return of the Superb Outdoor into the model line-up, since the Superb was given a rudimentary nip and tuck back in 2013. To our eyes the Superb Outdoor and Outdoor Plus models look mighty handsome and offer off-road - or soft road, if we're being more accurate - capability.
For 2014, the new Outdoor is powered by a choice of 2.0-litre TDI diesel engines, in 140- or 170hp states of tune. Both come with four-wheel drive. Skoda fans will welcome the fact that the specification for the new vehicle is above the SE trim and offers a plethora of equipment. These include 18-inch alloys painted in dark anthracite, hill hold control for steep inclines or descents, a tyre pressure monitor and sill protectors - in matt grey.
Pricing starts at £26,995 and £29,235 for the Outdoor and Outdoor Plus models respectively. Skoda says this premium of £2,000 over the SE trim represents exceptional value. And, in this case with that amount of equipment thrown in, we're inclined to agree.
Anything else?
There's also an opportunity for prospective buyers to add more luxury to the new models. By paying a further £1,000 on top of the purchase price to both new Outdoor variants, Skoda will include leather, satellite navigation and integrated DAB digital radio.
