What's the news?

The Land Rover Defender may be able to trace its lineage back all the way to the original 1948 Series 1, but that doesn't mean it's beyond the occasional special edition spruce-up to try and keep a waning customer base interested.

The new Silver Pack and Black Pack options, rather obviously, use those colours with the grille, light surrounds and roof painted to contrast. Inside there are such items as contrast-stitched leather seats, an Alston black headlining (more commonly seen on the Range Rover) and privacy glass in the rear.

As with the recently revised Discovery, the Land Rover lettering has disappeared from the leading edge of the bonnet and been replaced with the word 'Defender'. The Black Pack has the option of either a new 'sawtooth' alloy wheel or a black-finished heavy-duty item. Silver Pack cars get clear indicator lenses and dual-finish alloy wheels. Silver-painted side step bars are also available.

Those leather seats can be finished in three colour schemes: Ebony/Pimento, Ebony/Tan or Ebony/Lunar.

Anything else?

All current UK-spec Defender 90 (short) and 110 (long wheelbase) models are already fitted with anti-lock brakes and stability control as standard, and from now on ABS will be available on the longer wheelbase pickup-style Defender 130 models.
