After months of speculation, Auto Express has revealed that the Lamborghini Gallardo replacement will be called Huracan. Named after a hurricane, rather than a bull as its Lamborghini's baby supercar, it's still a crucial car for the Italian company.

Speculation on the replacement car's name ran for months. Titles like Cabrera, Mayan and Deimos were suggested but one month before its official launch, Lamborghini has finally come clean. Make no mistake, the Huracan is a critical model for Lamborghini with 14,022 Gallardos sold, and a most valuable contributor to the Sant'Agata balance sheet. Contrast that with the Murciélago, which sold just over 4,000 units in total.

The forthcoming Huracan is tipped to be powered by a naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10. Affluent buyers have the choice of a six-speed manual or seven-speed twin-clutch automatic gearbox with an estimated 600hp. Styling will be influenced by the Sesto Elemento concept car that broke cover back in 2010. Sources say too that the 'Top Gun' fighter jet start button in the Aventador will also make an appearance in the Huracan.
