What's the news?

Nissan has added considerable technology into the all-new 2014 Qashqai to make parking as stress free as possible. New features include an advanced parking system that's aimed at taking the effort out of parallel and bay parking by automatically steering the car into a space just 80cm longer than the Qashqai. Park Assist works in harmony with Around View Monitor (AVM) and automatically measures the dimensions of a parallel parking space.

All the driver needs to do is control forward and reverse motion while the car does the rest. Once the system detects the white lines of a parking bay it will automatically park inside them. This is achieved by a large number of cameras located around the entire car. These are on the tailgate, front grille and beneath each door mirror, giving a full 360-degree 'helicopter view', which can be monitored on the larger seven-inch NissanConnect screen - giving a full high-level view of the car. This should help reduce the potential for damage to bodywork or wheels when negotiating the tightest car parking spaces in urban areas.

The Qashqai also features Moving Object Detection, which alerts the driver via an audible warning if something moves into the vehicle's path. On top of that, to ensure the picture from the rear view camera remains clear, a nifty new mechanism for firstly washing and then blow drying the camera is activated when sensors detect the lens is dirty.

Anything else?

Available along with the new innovative parking assistance for 2014 is Nissan Safety Shield with active safety features that include forward emergency braking, driver attention alert, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning and moving object detection. Nissan Safety Shield is in line with Nissan's ongoing vision for zero accidents and a commercially viable autonomous vehicle by 2020.
