With the winter approaching, many car owners with an ageing vehicle will be wondering how it will fare over the cold season. Some owners may look at their vehicle and decide the only option is to sell up before it falls apart to ensure they can have a
stress-free winter driving experience. However, with Christmas around the corner and energy bills for the winter set to be at an all-time high it might not be the right time to buy a new car. To help with keeping the car running and to improve the vehicle's all-round performance there are ways to improve things to help reignite the enjoyment in driving an ageing car.
Upgrade your tyres
It is amazing what a decent set of tyres can do to improve the quality of ride in a car. Regularly checking the tyre pressure is an important part of maintenance, as it is surprising to find how many underinflated tyres are on the road. With bad tyres there are many problems that can crop up, including suspension and clutch issues.
Change your oil regularly
Opting to change the oil as little as possible and purchasing the cheapest product available will prove to be a bad combination for a vehicle. By buying high performance oil and changing it regularly the vehicle will have a smoother drive and should stay healthier for longer.
Replace the exhaust
By replacing the factory installed exhaust with one that provides better airflow then the all-round performance of the car could improve.
Improve the sound system
While this won't improve performance the new sound system will definitely ensure more enjoyment when the ride of the car disappoints.
Regular maintenance
It is never too late to begin regular maintenance of the car. By completing frequent checks and replacing small parts that are damaged through wear and tear it is decreasing the ageing process of the vehicle. This will ensure it is at a higher standard for a longer period of time.
Buy a new car
Depending on the cost of parts and value of vehicle it may be wise to purchase a
Ford used car that is affordable and cheap to run. AA's new car market place has a large database of vehicles and all cars come with a free 26-point vehicle check.
