What's the news?
Lister has announced its intention to resume sports car production with a revival of the Lister 'Knobbly' Jaguar. It has been nearly 25 years since the company name appeared on a car but the three Lister companies have been reunited into a single organisation for the new venture.
George Lister Engineering of Cambridge, Brian Lister Light Engineering and Lister Storm have been consolidated within a new business - Lister Motor Company Limited. Aftermarket used car warranty company Warrantywise has made a significant investment in the venture.
The new car will be identical to the 1958 Lister Jaguars with continuation chassis numbers and it will conform to FIA/HTP Appendix K specification. Power comes from the six-cylinder Jaguar XK engine, supplied by specialists Crosthwaite & Gardener, to D-Type specification. Original working drawings, jigs and the Shapecraft body bucks have all been dusted off to bring back the racing car.
While many of the team involved with the original 1950s racing project (including Brian Lister) have been called back to assist with the revival the venture also makes use of modern technology. Computer-aided design, 3D scanning and CNC machining are part of the 'state-of-the-art' facility in Cambridge where the cars will be built.
Anything else?
There is no word on how much the new Listers will cost or when the first cars will appear. However, a series of Lister sponsored historic race meetings are planned for 2015 when the company celebrates its 125th anniversary.
