What's the news?
Lexus has announced pricing details for its new IS model, which starts at £26,495 for the entry-level SE version. Three other trim levels are available from launch - Luxury, F Sport and Premium - and buyers can choose from either a petrol or hybrid powertrain.
Exterior
The new IS features Lexus' latest design language, including the company's spindle grille. Entry-level models are fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels, while upgrading to Luxury equips the car with 17s. Those wanting 18-inch alloys have a choice of the five-spoke variants found on top-spec Premier models or the 10-spoke items fitted to F Sport models. In addition, F Sport versions get a lower ride height thanks to its sports suspension and a bespoke mesh grille.
Eight colour options can be had across the model range, with a metallic or mica finish available for £610. F Sport models can only be had in unique F Sport White or Ultra Blue, though.
Interior
Equipment levels, even in the base level version, are pretty generous. All models come with cruise control, dual-zone climate control, smart entry & start, automatic headlights, a DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity. Moving up to top of the range Premier models Lexus adds electrically adjustable, heated and vented leather seats; a seven-inch high definition infotainment system featuring satnav and a rear-view camera; and a 15-speaker Mark Levinson surround sound system.
F Sport models get aluminium pedals, a leather bound sports steering wheel and gearstick, and LFA-style dials.
Mechanicals
Buyers can either opt for the 2.5-litre petrol IS 250 or the full-hybrid IS 300h. The petrol version comes with a six-speed automatic gearbox, while the hybrid gets Lexus' E-CVT automatic transmission. The new hybrid system is said to achieve 65mpg on the combined cycle and emit less than 100g/km of CO2.
Anything else?
While the petrol version starts at £26,495, you'll need to find another £3,000 to get your hands on the cheapest hybrid. Prices rise steadily throughout the range, culminating in the top-of-the-range IS 300h Premier at £38,495. All versions can be ordered now, with first deliveries expected in July.
