Here are a few news stories from elsewhere on the internet that caught our eye this week.
Volkswagen Polo R to have 225hp Golf GTI engine
Autocar must have given someone at the launch of the
Mk 7 Golf a few extra brandies, as they've revealed that Volkswagen will launch the Polo R at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, coinciding with the WRC version's debut on the World Rally Championship.
Word is that the Polo R will put 225hp (produced by the Mk6 Golf GTI engine) through the front wheels via a mechanical limited slip differential. A new Golf R is also on the cards, powered by a further development of the new Golf GTI's 2.0-litre turbo engine. Don't expect to see that before the Frankfurt Motor Show next year.

Spy shots galore
Auto Express released sets of spy shots this week of the forthcoming Skoda Octavia and the new Infiniti G37 saloon. The former will use Volkswagen's MQB platform and is thought to move a little more upmarket to distance itself from the new Skoda Rapid. Meanwhile, Infiniti's rival for the BMW 3 Series
et al is expected to debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January. By the time it arrives in Europe it may well be powered by a full line-up of Mercedes-Benz engines. Coupé and Convertible variants are expected in time and Auto Express reckons a hybrid model is likely too.
To accompany its story about Vauxhall's new 200hp 1.6-litre petrol engine, Autocar used more spy shots of the Cascada convertible - based on a mixture of the Astra and Insignia. It also bagged a few shots of the new open-topped Lamborghini Aventador testing at speed in Germany. Its new two-piece carbon fibre roof should ensure that it's virtually as quick as the coupé.
