Vauxhall Motors and super/collider - a creative science group - are collaborating to host the 'Vauxhall Ampera x super/collider Science Weekend' at London's newly unveiled landmark, King's Cross Filling Station. The four-day event will be held from 16th-19th August, and is part of the venue's 'Vauxhall Ampera Season' - a six-month programme exhibiting new ideas within modern culture.
The opening science weekend intends to teach attendees about the future of motoring; including what may happen when oil reserves run out, how future filling stations may look and alternative propulsion for future vehicles. The Vauxhall Ampera is an apt centrepiece for the show, as the family car can run on electric-mode only for up to 50 miles; providing a stark contrast to the disused filling station in which the programme is being run.
As well as the informative exhibitions, the latest gadgets and more exciting scientific developments will be on display. Hydrogen fuel cell racing, laser fusion light shows and a demonstration of a 'personal rapid transport pod' are some of the features of the show.
Following the upcoming Science Weekend, the 'Vauxhall Ampera Season' will continue to explore other science and technology topics such as energy, mobility and urban ecology; and will host various events ranging from solar powered cities to catalytic clothing.
Entry to next weekend's event is free with no age restrictions.
