What's the news?

With the BMW 7 Series having recently received a refresh it was inevitable that the Alpina B7 (the more exclusive, hand finished 7 Series) would follow suit. Along with the new look the Alpina also packs more power than before.

A larger kidney grille flanked by redesigned Xenon adaptive headlights are amongst 30 visual upgrades that are included on the Alpina B7. Other notable changes are LED fog lights to match the LED headlights now standard on the 7 Series and updated rear clusters. Alpina signature Blue Metallic paint is offered as too are the classic 21-inch, 20-spoke wheels.

As the B7 is a special order car the interior finish is all down to the owner's preference. Along with new upholstery choices and BMW Individual colour and trim packages B7 buyers can also choose the latest Bang & Olufsen Surround Sound System that has recently been added to the 7 Series.

Alpina has added BMW's latest Valvetronic throttle-less intake technology to the B7's 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 engine, resulting in increases of 40hp and 30Nm of torque. Drivers will now have 540hp and 728Nm to play with, all transmitted via the eight-speed Alpina automatic transmission. The B7 is available in both rear-wheel drive and BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive configuration and Alpina says that, depending on the configuration - and also wheelbase length - the 0-62mph sprint can be completed in either 4.3- or 4.4 seconds with a top speed of 194mph (drag-limited, 193mph with xDrive), up from the previous 175mph.

Anything else?

The Alpina B7 will officially debut at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in August.
