Moments after unveiling the all-new SRT Viper to the world Ralph Gilles, CEO and President of Street and Racing Technology Brand and Motorsports, Chrysler Group, announced that the new car would be going racing.
Following in the long tradition of 'win on Sunday, sell on Monday' the Viper GTS-R will take to the track in the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in 2012. Two cars, built in partnership with North Carolina based Riley Technologies, will race in the production based GT class where they will compete with the Corvette C6.R and Ferrari 458 Italia.
"Racing has been a significant part of the illustrious history of Viper not only with wins on the track, but also in the continued development of the street cars - and our new 2013 SRT Viper models are proof of those lessons learned," said Gilles. "Now with our new team and the launch of the GTS-R, we're excited and proud to begin writing more chapters in the racing history of the Viper later this summer."
