Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced the creation of 1,000 jobs at its factory at Halewood on Merseyside. The recruitment drive is a direct response to demand for the Land Rover Freelander and Range Rover Evoque, manufactured at the plant near Liverpool.
When the vacancies are filled it will take the workforce at Halewood to 4,500, which is three times the number employed there in 2009. The factory will move to three shifts and 24-hour production to meet demand from around the world.
Positions being recruited include production operators, supervisors and engineers. All new production line employees will receive training towards an Intermediate (Level 2) Apprenticeship.
The increase in production will also benefit JLR's supply chain, which should see more jobs created outside the company. Jaguar Land Rover HR Director, Des Thurlby, commented: "Our commitment to expand the Halewood workforce and increase production is great news for JLR, for Merseyside and for the wider UK economy."
