Eccentric British motor manufacturer Morgan will unveil three new models at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. Leading the line will be the 2013 Aero Coupé that packs a 4.8-litre BMW engine in a car that weighs in at a little over 1,100kg. With a power output of 367hp as standard - or 390hp with the optional sport exhaust - the Aero Coupé can rocket from 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds in manual form or 4.2 seconds with the six-speed automatic transmission. Whatever the gearbox both cars top out at 170mph.
It is a similar story in the new Morgan Plus 8 roadster. Constructed from aircraft grade aluminium, at 1,100kg the Plus 8 is apparently the lightest V8-powered passenger car in the world and also the only 'Classic' Morgan available with a six-speed automatic gearbox. The transmission can be operated in either Auto or Sport modes with the latter blipping the throttle for the perfect downshift. Designed as a 'true driver's car' the Plus 8 is far from just a barebones back road blaster and comes with air conditioning, a double layer mohair roof and a CD player as standard.
The Roadster 3.7 is the flagship of the Classic Morgan range and comes with a 3.7-litre (funny that) Ford Cyclone V6 engine. Rated at 280hp and 352Nm of torque the Roadster is claimed to be deceptively fast while retaining a smooth power delivery all the way up to its 6,850rpm redline. Power from the engine is delivered to the road via a six-speed manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential ensures good traction for the 950kg drop top. Thanks to the low weight the Roadster is the most fuel efficient Morgan returning 28.8mpg while emitting 230g/km of CO
2.
Further details on specifications and prices for the Morgan range will be announced when the three cars are unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show that kicks off on March 8 for the public (we'll be there a few days before...).
