Tata has unveiled a gold-plated version of its cheapest car, the Nano, in Mumbai, with an estimated worth of £3 million.
The gold Nano was hand-built by 30 craftsmen and bears 80kg of 22-carat gold, 15kg of silver and a countless number of gemstones.
Widely known as the world's cheapest car, the standard Nano can be bought as little as £1,300 depending on the market. Anyone wishing to purchase this one, will be disappointed though, because Tata is using it purely as a marketing tool to mark 5,000 years of Indian craftsmanship.
The unveiling comes after sales of the standard Tata Nano hit an all time low, with only 1,202 Nano models sold throughout August. Although previously successful, Nano sales had started to decline amid safety concerns, after a number of examples caught fire.
