What is it?
A warning shot across Porsche's bows. Jaguar even mentioned the 911's dimensions when unveiling its C-X16 concept in Germany. Despite lots of 'ifs' and 'possibles' in the speeches accompanying the revealing, expect this stunner in showrooms in the next two years.
Why's it here?
Where else would you debut a Porsche-killer but on Porsche's home territory? Jaguar is on a roll, and an E-Type successor has been on the cards for about as long as anyone can remember. This is it, and Jaguar promises that it's a sports car rather than a GT like its XK sibling. Aluminium construction means it's light, while a 375bhp supercharged V6 with electrical assist (adding 94bhp at the push of a button - for ten seconds) should see it perform like, err, a scalded cat.
Show stopper or floor filler?
Definitely a show stopper, Jaguar's C-X16 wowing with its sharp looks, neat detailing and promise of epic performance - 62mph anticipated in 4.0 seconds. We're not so sure about the growler in shades - take a close look at the badge in the grille - but fun aside this concept looks ready to take on Porsche's dominance in the £50,000-£70,000 sports car marketplace.
