While Silverstone reverberates to the sound of endurance racing this weekend (9-11 September), a corner of the paddock will host racing on a smaller scale. A SCX slot-car track will allow visitors to take control of 1:32 scale versions of the Audi R10 and Peugeot 908 HDI LMP1 racing in the full-size Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) six-hour race.
The 50-metre, six-lane miniature track is said to be the UK's biggest ever digital slot racing circuit. It is set up by SCX's UK importer AEC and uses the latest digital technology. This allows lane changes and simulates fuel consumption and tyre wear; adding a dimension of strategy and planning to races.
Some of the ILMC drivers will try their hand at small-scale racing; including Lucas Ordonez who drives for the Nissan Signatech ILMC squad. Lukas is more used to racing on the Playstation 3 and won the chance to become a racing driver in an online competition.
There will also be a race on Saturday 10th September for slot car enthusiasts from the
www.slotforum.com online forum.
