Alfa Romeo is set to reignite interest in the 4C Concept with a new exterior colour called 'Fluid Metal', designed to enhance the smooth and sinuous lines of the two-seater coupé. Since the 4C Concept's initial unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show this year the car has been refined ahead of an expected 2013 launch.
Carbon fibre and aluminium, materials used in the 8C Competizione, are set to feature in the 4C Concept alongside the 1750 turbocharged petrol engine, TCT twin-clutch transmission and the DNA system - all of which feature in the Italian marque's current range of cars. Power from the centrally mounted engine is expected to top the 200bhp mark and with vehicle weight confirmed at around 850kg the 4C is set to have supercar credentials thanks to an impressive power-to-weight ratio. Factor in diminutive proportions (four metres in length and a wheelbase of less than 2.4 metres) and the 4C is set to be an agile rear-wheel drive coupé.
Alfa Romeo will also debut the next generation TCT semi-automatic transmission in the Giulietta. Promising improved efficiency and low fuel consumption, but with a sportier feel than a conventional automatic gearbox, the transmission will be available in conjunction with either the 1.4 TB MultiAir or 2.0 JTDM-2 engine, both offering 170bhp.
The smallest car in the Alfa Romeo range, the MiTo, will also receive two new engines that will be showcased in Frankfurt. A new 85bhp 1.3 JTDM will be joined by the TwinAir engine originally developed by Fiat. Like the diesel variant the 900cc petrol engine is set to produce 85bhp, but comes with the lowest CO
2 emissions in its class of 98g/km.
