A convoy of a dozen Rolls-Royce cars worth more than £4 million drove around Lake Como this week - escorted by the Italian police.
The motorcyclists of the
Carabinieri cleared the way for the convoy of Phantom, Phantom Drophead Coupé, Phantom Coupé and Ghost models through villages and snaking roads. The cars, driven by Rolls-Royce customers and VIP guests, started at Villa d'Este in Cernobbio, hosts of the Concorso d'Eleganza held last weekend (22-23 May 2011).
At the end of the tour the guests were ferried across the lake in one of three J-Craft Torpedo motor cruisers before having lunch in Bellagio.
"This was a truly amazing experience in one of Europe's most beautiful locations," commented Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. "We know the Italians appreciate the finest things in life - and we have the Carabinieri to thank for making sure our guests arrived for lunch with broad smiles on their faces."
The experience came as a fitting end to the Villa d'Este Concorso d'Eleganza celebrations, an event that is rapidly sealing its reputation as one of the world's most fashionable motoring events following the addition of a second public day this year.
