The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, better known to all as the G Wagon, is taking its final bow with the appropriately named BA3 Final Edition and Edition Select models.
BA3 Final Edition cars are based on the short wheelbase G-Class and the Edition Select on the long wheelbase version. These models bring to a close 32 years of Merc's most hardy off-roader. They will come in two end-of-the-line versions with either a 211bhp 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine or the more appealing 5.5-litre V8 packing 388bhp in the G 500 model.
As well as the expected four-wheel drive, locking differentials and electronic traction control to give the G Wagon peerless off-road ability, these final models will feature a seven-speed 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox. The transmission also has an off-road low-ratio set of gears for more serious dirty work.
From the outside, it will be easy to spot a BA3 Final Edition G Wagon thanks to the car's flared wheelarches, 18-inch alloy wheels, running boards and a spare wheel cover with a 3D stainless steel Mercedes three-pointed star attached. There are also stainless steel and carbon fibre trim inserts.
Inside the BA3 Final Edition, Mercedes has added ambient lighting, black leather seats and walnut wood trim. In Germany all of this comes in at €90,511 for the G 350 BlueTEC model and €100,685 for the G 500.
If you want the long-wheelbase Edition Select model, you'll need to fork out an extra €6,735. For that you get rear doors, more space, 18-inch alloy wheels and an AMG sports exhaust.
The Edition Select also has two-tone leather upholstery, more chrome trim and stainless steel sill plates. For good measure, there' also a Harman Kardon stereo.
UK prices have not been released as the special editions will not be sold here.
