The Amsterdam Motor Show is due to open next week (April 12) and there Ford will launch the Focus ECOnetic, claimed to be the most economical car in its class.
Powering the Focus is a 104bhp version of the 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine. New injectors, turbocharger and friction reduction measures help make the engine as efficient as possible. The ECOnetic also gets its own aerodynamic package, low rolling resistance tyres and revised final drive. It also shares a stop-start system, regenerative battery charging and shift indicator light with the rest of the Focus range.
Official certification isn't due until later this year but Ford predicts fuel consumption of 80mpg and CO2 emissions of 95g/km.
The Focus ECOnetic will be offered in five-door and estate body styles. Prices will be announced closer to the on-sale date, which is currently scheduled for early 2012.
