The wraps are off the three-door version of the new Astra and we have to give it a big thumbs up. Derived from the GTC concept shown at the
2003 Geneva Motor Show (and called Opel Astra GTC in other European markets), the production version has held onto many of the design cues. The growing trend for manufacturers to offer two very different three and five-door derivatives of the same model in the same sector is evident. The 3-door features the familiar new family nose but differs in its rakish coupe like styling form from the B-pillar back.
Building on the solid dynamic platform of the 5-door, the 3-door is aimed to offer a more sporting driving experience. To this end a 240bhp VXR model will top the range, alongside a 170bhp turbo version and all the existing Astra engines. The new Astra goes on sale early next year.
