This, friends, is the astonishing Jaguar C-X75 electric supercar. It has 780bhp, cracks 100mph in 5.5 seconds, tops out at 205mph and has a pair of 80,000rpm turbine engines feeding the battery pack. It's already contender numéro un for Star of Paris 2010.
Why's it here?
Jaguar presumably wants to show that Ferrari hasn't got the eco supercar utopia of the future all to itself. The C-X75 has four 195bhp electric motors - one for each wheel - with a combined torque output of 1,180lb.ft. And how about this for an obscure geek stat: it will do 50-90mph in 2.3 seconds - quicker than you can actually say "50 to 90 miles per hour".
And so to this pair of turbines. They each generate 94bhp and between them provide enough battery juice to give the car a 560-mile range. The C-X75's battery-only range is 68 miles. Jag quotes CO2 at just 38g/km with the blowers in the equation.
Show stopper or floor filler?
Stop the show! It's not even started yet, but just stop it. This is a real surprise, and at a time when surprises are rare. The C-X75 is tantalisingly futuristic, while also being feasible and absolutely gorgeous. Jag reckons it's inspired by the C- and D-Type racers of the '50s; we think it has shades of 2020's XJ220.
