Lexus has given the IS range a comprehensive update for 2011 to be officially launched at the
Paris Motor Show. There are some visual changes, lower emissions from the engines and no price increases.
Possibly the most important change is the launch of the IS 200d. It replaces the IS 220d and is designed to attract company car drivers. Its revised 2.2-litre diesel engine develops 148bhp and 251lb.ft and is claimed to be smoother than its predecessor whilst also meeting Euro 5 emissions regulations. Performance claims include a 0-62mph time of 10.2 seconds and fuel consumption of 55.4mpg. The all-important CO
2 figure is 134g/km, bringing down both the annual Vehicle Excise Duty and Benefit in Kind tax.
The petrol-powered IS 250 is now only available with an automatic transmission and is a little more economical than before: 33.6mpg compared with 31.7mpg for the 2010 model. It meets Euro 5 standards - which come into force next year - with no loss of performance. The coupé-convertible IS 250C uses the same 2.5-litre V6 and sees a tiny improvement in fuel consumption from 30.4- to 30.7mpg and a 6g/km reduction in CO
2 emissions to 213g/km.
Visual changes are mostly concentrated on the F-sport version. Inspired by the Lexus IS F there are faired in fog lamps, new spoilers and 18-inch dark silver alloy wheels. The interior receives titanium-effect trim and an anthracite roof liner. Other models get the choice of new 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels, while a new paint colour, Ultra Blue Metallic, is now an option.
The 2011 Lexus IS models are available to order now; prices start at £24,350 for the IS 200d, £25,260 for the IS 250 and £35,996 for the IS 250C. The
Paris Motor Show opens to the press on 30 September and to the public on 2 October.
