Star of Ford's stand at the Moscow Motor Show in August will be a significantly revised Mondeo line-up, boasting a restyle inside and out, new turbocharged engines and technology.
At the front, the bonnet is new, as is the bumper. They're complemented by bolder grille openings and LED daytime running lights. LEDs are also employed in the new-look rear lamps. They're offset by a slight reshape of the back of the car.
Inside, the centre console is all-new, as are the door cappings and an overhead console with ambient lighting.
The biggest changes come under that reshaped bonnet. The Mondeo will be the first Ford to feature a new 237bhp, 2.0-litre version of the recently launched EcoBoost range of petrol engines. It's turbocharged and uses direct injection to enhance efficiency. It joins a 200bhp variant of the same engine.
However, the biggest sellers will sip diesel. Ford has announced the introduction of a revised 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine producing up to 197bhp. It's the flagship of the turbodiesel line-up that includes an improved 2.0-litre TDCi engine available in 113-, 138- and 161bhp guises. Those all boast CO
2 emissions of 139g/km.
Ford's dual-clutch automatic (called PowerShift) will be standard on Mondeos with the EcoBoost petrol engines and optional on some diesel versions.
Helping to enhance the Mondeo's efficiency is a raft of new functions, including Smart Regenerative Charging, Ford Eco Mode and an Active Grille Shutter system.
Full details will be available closer to the new Mondeo's on-sale date at the end of 2010.
