Gordon Murray Design has announced the specifications and performance targets for the T.27 City Car. It owes a lot to the petrol-powered T.25 but with a compact electric motor and battery from Zytek Automotive.
Like the T.25, the T.27 is incredibly compact, just 2.5 metres long and 1.3 metres wide; with batteries it should weigh only 680kg. Despite the diminutive size there is room for up to three people inside.
The performance figures quoted are 0-62mph in 'less than 15 seconds', with a top speed of 65mph and 80-100 mile range. Based on UK power generation the CO2 emissions for the combined cycle will be 48g/km and 28g/km in urban use, although there is no pollution at point of use.
A running prototype should be complete by April 2011. The company is looking for partners and funding to establish manufacturing in the UK, which could create 6,000 jobs.
