There were celebrations last week as What Car? magazine handed out its annual awards. The winners were announced at a lavish event at the Grosvenor House hotel on Park Lane in London. Seventeen awards were won by nine manufacturers.
Peugeot is celebrating as
the 3008 took the overall Car of the Year award as well as the Crossover category. The 3008 was praised for family friendly features, comfort and affordability. Peugeot also won an award for
the 5008, which was voted best MPV.
The other manufacturer with three award winning cars was Audi; taking the Reader Award for the A1 - voted the most exciting car coming in 2010. The
TT 2.0 TFSI was the magazine’s favourite Coupé and the Performance award went to the
R8 V10. Audi also took the award for vehicle security.
Four manufacturers earned two awards. The
Volkswagen Polo 1.4 SE was best Supermini while the Small Family car award went to the
Golf 1.4 TSI SE. Mazda took the awards for Family Car and Estate with the
2.2-litre diesel version of the 6. The prizes for best Open Car and Compact Executive went to BMW for the
Z4 sDrive 23i and 320d ES respectively. The Mercedes Attention Assist system was voted the best safety system and the
S 350 CDI was the winner in the Luxury category - the fourth year Mercedes has won the award.
Renault took the overall prize for the best hot hatchback with the
Mégane Renaultsport 250. The
Twingo Renaultsport and
Clio Renaultsport also won awards in their price categories. Two British cars were recognised; the
Land Rover Discovery TDV6 XS in the 4x4 category and the
Jaguar XF 3.0D V6 Luxury as best Executive car.
