The German police have announced that visitors to the Nurburgring will be facing tougher inspections of their vehicles and documents. The move may see those without the correct documentation - or cars that don't meet Germany's tough vehicle condition standards - having their vehicles seized and impounded.

The changes will be of particular interest to those with modified cars, the German authorities frowning on unofficial alterations to the engine, suspension, bodywork or wheels. Some of the items that the police will be looking out for include wheels protruding from the bodywork, bonnet pins, large rear spoilers and air filters without their covers fitted.

German drivers are well used to the tough vehicle inspections, the annual TUV test being much stricter than our MOT. Ken Harris, of Nurburgringmotorsport said: "having your vehicle approved at a UK MOT centre may not now be enough to satisfy these much stricter locally applied rules and you need to keep with you the original car documentation, because any photocopies are not accepted."
