So this is the new E-Class, Brabus style. Of course, it's as black and powerful as Mike Tyson, just like the rest of them, but actually this time the headline stats are reigned in a bit. Starting with the E 500 and its 383bhp V8, Brabus has increased the displacement to 6.1-litres by replacing the crankshaft and increasing the bore and the cylinder heads are fettled and stronger camshafts fitted. That adds up to a horsepower hike of 73, taking the total to 456bhp.

Torque is a substantial 453lb.ft from 3,100rpm too, which is high by most standards, but actually quite paltry compared to many of the near 1,000lb.ft efforts from Brabus's turbocharged babies. The sighs of disappointment from tyre makers everywhere can be heard across the land. Still, 0-62mph is done with in just 4.7 seconds and the car doesn't run out of puff until 191mph. There's a limited slip diff, too, for the powerslider in you.

Interior changes include pretty much anything you fancy, really, but the Brabus E can be specified with illuminated scuff plates, leather and/or Alcantara interiors and your choice of sports steering wheels. Outside there are no surprises at all: any paint can be yours, but you'll probably want black, shoed with size 20 rims in skinny rubber soles, inside which will sit massive cross drilled brake discs with 12-piston callipers at the front, six-piston units at the back. What else? Four chrome tailpipes? Check. Rear diffuser? Check. Full body kit including rear spoiler, skirts and a new front bumper? Check. Complimentary membership to the World Wildlife Fund. Er, no.
