Hypercars are very much the flavour of this week despite a world economy that's in tatters. Following Mercedes-Benz McLaren's announcement of its £710,000
SLR Stirling Moss you might think that the world's rich had had their fill of bonkers fast supercars, but Zenvo, a Danish firm, thinks differently. Its new ST1 broke cover this week, the exquisitely styled hypercar promising a
Bugatti Veyron busting 1,104bhp and 1,055lb.ft of torque.
Enabling its 7.0-litre V8 engine to produce that astronomical power and torque figure is the fitment of both a supercharger and a turbocharger - the ST1 name refers to 'Supercharger, Turbo and series 1'. Zenvo claims it wants to provide its customers with a car that meets today's standards but keep the original and unique feeling of driving a supercar. With a claimed three-second 0-62mph time and electronically limited 233mph top speed we don't doubt its status as a supercar, but it'll need a skilled driver to put all that power down via its six-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels.
Only 15 ST1s are due to be built, the Danish firm only selling it to 'special approved customers'. We're not sure what that means exactly, but we imagine you'll need a Black American Express card before your enquiry for a test drive is taken seriously - the ST1 has a price tag of 16,000,000 DKK, or a quite staggering £2,033,856. And that's before you start adding options like ceramic brakes.
Even the disgustingly rich of this planet are likely to consider that too huge an amount of money to drop on a hypercar, particularly one from a relatively unknown company. It makes
Aston Martin's £1m One-77 project and the £710,000 SLR Stirling Moss look like conspicuously good value.
