Mazda has announced that an all new five-door version of the Mazda3 will be launched on 5th December. Fuel economy is improved and emissions reduced compared to the old model.
Four engines will be offered including a new 2.2-litre turbodiesel. First seen in the
Mazda6 this engine comes with either 148bhp or 182bhp. It also complies with the Euro Stage 5 emissions regulations and Mazda claims improved fuel economy over its previous 2.0-litre diesel. The rest of the engine range is carried over and comprises a 1.6-litre turbodiesel as well as 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol powerplants.
Improvements in economy and performance should be manifest across the range as weight and aerodynamic drag have both been reduced. Mazda claims the new 3 is the most aerodynamic car in its class.
More details will be released when the covers officially come off at the Bologna Motor Show on 3rd December. The show opens to the public on 5th December and the new Mazda3 should arrive in the UK in the spring.
