| Revised model | 2008 Aston Martin V8 Vantage |
This is why we love Aston Martin: nobody complained that the
V8 Vantage was slow or underpowered, but that hasn't stopped the British firm from increasing power. The growling V8 has grown in size from 4.3- to 4.7-litres and now boasts 420bhp.
With an extra 40bhp on tap, the V8 Vantage goes from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds and hits a top speed of 180mph. Aston has also revised the optional semi-auto Sportshift gearbox to give better economy and snappier shifts. There's also new 'Dual Throttle Map' software that allows the driver to choose between Comfort and Sports modes for gear shift response in the Sportshift 'box.
Along with the engine and transmission changes, Aston has firmed up the front and rear suspension for the Coupe and Roadster versions. The Brit firm says this improves handling while also giving a better ride quality. Steering has also come in for attention with stiffer bushes and a revised lower arm to give a quicker response.
The only outward clue to the new V8 Vantage is a set of new 19-inch alloy wheels. Inside, there's a new centre console made of zinc alloy, while the ignition key is replaced by Aston's Emotional Control Unit, as seen on the DBS model.
No prices as yet from Aston Martin. These will be confirmed nearer to the first revised versions of the V8 Vantage going on sale in October.
