| New electric sportscar | Evisol Thorr |
The idea behind all of the Lotus Seven-type cars is that low weight makes them fast without relying on big engine power. Electric engines and their batteries are heavy, so the two shouldn't mix, right? Not if you work at Dutch firm Evisol.
Evisol has come up with the Thorr, which uses a 272bhp electric motor to create a low emissions sports car. Tipping the scales at 755kg, the lightweight Thorr has a power-to-weight ratio of 360bhp per tonne, which puts it well ahead of most supercars.
Evisol has not given any performance figures for the Thorr, but the rear-wheel drive flying Dutchman should be on a par with a Caterham R400's acceleration. The company is currently working on new batteries to give the Thorr a range of 150 miles. It says that the Thorr could go into limited production some time in 2009.
