| New Model Preview | 2008 Geneva Motor Show | Maserati GranTurismo S |
The Maserati GranTurismo S ups the power of the Italian coupé to 440bhp from the standard model's 405bhp. Maserati says this is to focus the new model on performance and driving excitement.
To help the new, more powerful version of the 4.7-litre V8 engine, Maserati has coupled it to a new sequential manual gearbox worked by steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The new 'box is located in a transaxle between the rear wheels, which helps with weight distribution.
Maserati has also uprated the brakes for the S with the introduction of the same discs and callipers from the Quattroporte Sport GT S. These brakes use dual cast technology to marry an aluminium hub with cast iron discs.
From the outside, changes to the GranTurismo S are subtle and minimal, while inside there are new front and rear seats, reshaped to be more figure hugging. The interior is upholstered in a mix of Poltrona Frau leather and Alcantara.
Maserati will announce prices and performance specs for the GranTurismo S at the
Geneva motorshow next week.
