Knight Rider has got itself a new face, and it's not just the actor that's changed. Gone is the old Pontiac Trans Am driven by 'The Hoff', to be replaced by a 540bhp V8-engined Mustang.
Coated in black from top to toe, the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR, first revealed at the
New York Motor Show in April, will take centre stage in the upcoming film remake of the popular 1980's crime fighting series.
Using the V8 engine block from the Ford GT, the new 'KITT' will have more than a little advantage over its podgy predecessor and that's before those at Shelby have meddled with chassis setup. The new car boasts low-profile tyres and subtle Shelby logos on its flanks and all-black front grille, whilst the metallic black body finish is neatly contrasted with dull-grey centre stripes that run the length of the vehicle. Of course the artificial intelligence will be back as well, but details are scarce as yet.
In full-on 'KITT Attack' form, the GT500KR loses ride height via lowering air-ride suspension and gains other exterior modifications including an upper and lower spoiler to help top speed stability, adding to a truly imposing stance.
A new series is set to go on air in America next year on NBC and will focus on Michael Knight's son, played by Justin Bruening.
