| New Model Preview | Geneva Motor Show | Infiniti EX |
Infiniti will be launching the EX in autumn 2008 as part of a four-car assault on Europe's biggest brands. With
BMW's X3 and Audi's A4 quattro Avant as prime targets, the coupe 4x4 crossover has tough competition in its path.
When it goes on sale at the end of the year in the US, the EX will be badged the EX35, powered by only one engine variant. That will be a 290bhp, 3.5-litre V6 petrol, which makes use of Infiniti's own variation of variable valve timing in the search for greater fuel efficiency. Infiniti will provide only one transmission too, a five-speed auto gearbox with switchable manual and 'DS' mode, helped by 'Downshift Rev Matching' (DRM) technology (i.e. automatic throttle blipping).
To broaden the appeal of the EX35 to keen motorists, at 1589mm tall the five-seater coupe crossover boasts a lower centre of gravity than the traditional 4x4, along with an independent multi-link rear suspension. Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) will give the driver an added level of safety, as well as speed sensitive steering to make the EX manageable in town, yet stable on motorways.
Highlights from the extensive accessories list include an 'Around View Monitor' (AVM) that provides the driver with camera-assisted 'top-down' views of the edges of the car to aid parking. The EX also features Lane Departure Prevention (LDP) and special, highly elastic resin paint that 'self-heals' when scratched. The technologies however, are yet to have a confirmed European release date.
The EX will sit on 17-inch rims as standard, with bi-Xenon headlamps, a roof-mounted spoiler and chrome finished dual exhausts also factory fitted.
The interior can be finished in either leather or cloth, with four colour combinations available. The white and violet illuminated instrument panel features a trip computer and navigation system set in a 7-inch colour display. Furthermore, Infiniti has saw fit to add a 9.3GB Music Box hard drive to save and playback your mp3s.
Expect pricing details to be released closer to the US launch date. The EX's European debut will be at the
2008 Geneva Motor Show.
