| Limited Edition Design Model | Porsche Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 |
Porsche has let the Porsche Design Studio get its hands on the brilliant
295bhp Cayman S. The result is a limited-edition Cayman S dubbed the Porsche Design Edition 1.
Featuring instrument dials that echo the style of the Porsche Design Studio's chronograph watch range, the Cayman S is also painted in Porsche Design's favoured hue - black. There's no mention of it in the press material, but the first pictures show the Cayman S Porsche Design Edition 1 wearing matt-effect stripes with 'Porsche Design Edition 1' lettering over the bonnet, roof and tailgate, as well as on the doors. Subtle, it isn't.
However, if the stripes and lettering have not got you noticed then perhaps the 19-inch Turbo wheels fitted on 5mm spacers and the 10mm suspension drop will. Inside it's, yep, black, with leather covering the seats and grippy Alcantara featuring on the steering wheel rim, roof lining, gearshift gaiter and handbrake grip. If the fact it's a special edition outside somehow escaped you there's also a small badge on the glovebox lid denoting which of the 777 cars Porsche will build that you're in.
The additional equipment coming courtesy of Porsche Design sounds like the winnings from a phone-in radio show. It consists of a briefcase containing a Flat Six Chronograph watch, a pocket knife, a pair of sunglasses, a pen and a key-ring. They're all in black too, even the pocket knife's blade - most of which will almost certainly end up in airport security bins when the briefcase is scanned as hand luggage...
Prices in the UK will be £49,890 when it arrives in November. That's a whopping £5,640 more than the standard Cayman S - you'd have to really like black and want that briefcase to justify the extra expense.
