| Special Edition Model | Mercedes-Benz E-Class |
Corporate customers will be interested to know that Mercedes is releasing a Special Edition E-Class based on the E220 CDI Classic, called the E-Class Executive.
The new model has a raft of extra items of standard equipment not present on the standard model, and all for £677 less than a Classic at £28,515 on-the-road.
In fact, Mercedes claims all the extra gear is worth £2,543; not a bad deal by all accounts.
Additional gadgets include telephone pre-wiring to simplify mobile phone connectivity and a six-disc CD changer. Styling changes comprise of 16-inch seven-spoke alloys, extra chrome detailing and leather-look Artico trim.
The Executive is powered by a 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine, which produces an adequate 170bhp - 60mph is reached in 8.4 seconds.
Colour choice is limited to two shades of silver and one of black; all are metallic.
Because of the Band E tax rating, a 22% tax payer is liable for £1,432 per annum, and a 40% taxpayer £2,604, which is reasonable for a luxury car of this kind.
The appearance of such special edition models usually signals the imminent replacement of a car, so will there be something to see in
Frankfurt?
